We know, we know. It seems far too early to be thinking about Halloween and Christmas! But with our pop-up screens and outdoor cinema equipment being booked out already, we thought we’d give you a helping hand with some screening ideas for the festive season.
Spooky forests and haunted houses
When hosting an outdoor cinema event, it’s all about location, location, location. Once you’ve decided which film you’d like to show, it’s time to find a venue that will turn your screening into an unforgettable experience. Halloween is the perfect time of year to dust off those childhood favourites like The Addams Family and Ghostbusters, or scare yourself to death with cult classics like The Exorcist or The Blair Witch Project. Why not hold your event in a cluster of trees and turn it into a haunted forest, with creepy decorations hanging from the branches and glowing carved pumpkins showing your guests the way. We’ve also known screenings to take place in old houses or castle ruins, which could easily be transformed into a haunted houses.
Pumpkin carving and toffee apples
Children (and big kids!) love it when screenings are accompanied with fun activities, games and seasonal treats. You could run pumpkin carving workshops before your screening, or have apple bobbing challenges and halloween themed face painting. At the refreshments bar, serve toffee apples or creepy cupcakes for the kids and boo-zy cocktails for the adults!
A winter wonderland
From Santa’s Grotto and winter wonderland to Narnia recreations and ice rink screenings, there are lots of creative Christmas event ideas. Plus, who doesn’t love all those festive favourites like Love Actually, The Holiday and It’s a Wonderful Life. Christmas is also the time of year to serve mulled wine and hot apple punch with mince pies at the bar, or winter hampers with hot dogs, popcorn and a flask of hot liquor chocolate.
For kids, the options are endless. You could host a Frozen party, inviting everyone to dress as their favourite character with snowman themed games and activities, or screen Elf with members of your team dressed as Santa’s little helpers handing out festive goodie bags. Not to forget Home Alone and The Muppet Christmas Carol.
